In one breath

In one breath my cheeks can sense the chill of a winter breeze,
A pelican skims across the bay seeking shelter from heavy seas.

In one breath the kookies laugh they bring a smile to my mouth,
The swamp oaks serenade me as clouds gather to the south.

In one breath the sooty terns feed on scurrying crabs,
Rushing to beat the turning tide one would think them desperate scabs.

In one breath the wind has changed raising goosebumps on my arms,
The ripples are now waves and now gone's that sense of calm.

In one breath the winter sunlight warms my age old face,
And leaves behind the weathered scars of this life and death race.

In one breath I realise a life is lived and lost,
We should make the most of everyday, and love at any cost.
